I wrote this just after Joe died but somehow it never was posted.
We buried my brother-in-law, Joe Malone, on Saturday, June 21. He died on June 6th after a brief bout with leukemia and a hospital-acquired infection and generalized septicemia that killed him.

He was a gregarious, funny, man. The priest called him a “regular joe”, and he
was. I was always happy to be with him
and sure to have many laughs. He was
always “Joe Malone” because we have so many Joes in the family and had to
differentiate them.
Joe had a very difficult first 12 years. He lived in several foster homes until he
finally arrived to live with Rose and John King about 1955. There, he found love, security, and
support. His biological parents and
siblings were all alcoholics. So was Joe
as a young man. I’ve known him for 45
years, however, and never, ever saw him drunk.
He was a functioning alcoholic when he drank. After a stay at Princeton House in the late
70’s, he stopped drinking.
Fortunately, he found a wonderful wife in Mary Anne. They were married for about 46 years. They
have a good family with 3 children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be missed by all who knew him, including me.
